I've heard stories....the parents saying "oh kung fu changed my kid, my kid is so respectful now, they're doing better in school".....etc......honestly I thought, yea sure...You're kids probably just grew out of the bad behavior. That was until my son was having serious behavioral issues. I thought nobody could pull him out of this. I was at my wits end with all of it....not a day went by without a phone call from the school principal, then, alternative school was decided for him. Countless nights I cried....bring for a break from this...begging for help. Then an ad came across my Facebook about Round Rock Shaolin Do Kung Fu. A special at that...$69 uniform included for 6 weeks....all the places I called previous months were $99+ a week......so I clicked, paid and bam he was a new student. We met Master Duncan first, who did his beginning testing, and he had to remind my son a few times to focus and follow him. But he did it, and all the instructors there have guided him and encouraged him non-stop. So now I'm one of those parents that telling you "ROUND ROCK SHAOLIN DO KUNG FU HAS CHANGED MY CHILD'S LIFE AND MINE" he looks forward to going to school now, he PASSED 1st grade with flying colors, his attitude is 90% better, he smiles more, he's proud of himself, he has new friends, and AMAZING new role models. I'm NOT one to do reviews but I couldn't pass up this one!!! Please take my word on this and check it for your kid. Thank you Master Duncan and ALL your wonderful staff!!!!

What a great place for Kung Fu and birthday parties! They just hosted a party for my kiddo and I can't say enough good about their ability to pull off a flawless party, feed kiddos, and make sure everyone has fun. Kids got a mini-Kung Fu class, obstacle course, and games. Highly recommend these guys, especially Ms Hannah Chapman and Mr D. Thank you!!!

My 5 yr old son has been going here for about a month now and he loves it. I was nervous cause at first he didn't want to walk in the front door on the first day. Now he is out of the car running in before I can get out myself lol. I have even noticed his self esteem growing :). The little ninja instructors are excellent with the students. So glad I found this place!!

As a RYT(yoga instructor) I'm always open to learning and cultivating new skills which connect the body, mind and spirit. This connection is imperative for a well balanced life especially in the chaos of the world we live in. I have found this through the professional instructorship of Master Duncan the very first time I joined his TAI CHI class. He is calm, patient and passionate with his students and that is rare. Try his classes yourself and I'm confident you will be honored to be his student.

4 Tips on Building Your Child's Confidence

Does any of this

sound familiar?

Sitting at work takes up the majority of your day, and you feel the need to do something about it.

Typical forms of exercise don’t really work for you. They’re too demanding or painful, and they tire you out just thinking about them.

Nagging joint issues make simple activities like walking around a chore.

Aging is an unavoidable aspect of life

...but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it gracefully

Tai Chi is a low impact, easy-to-start form of exercise that’s perfect for men and women of all ages, shapes, and sizes. Don’t be fooled by thinking this is your typical martial arts practice. Tai Chi classes are less about self-defense, fighting, and intensity, and more about health, inner peace, and tranquility.

The flowing motions of Tai Chi will invigorate your mind and body, waging war on the years of stress and tension you’ve allowed to build up.

Feel the stress and tension melt away

Stress and anxiety can actually turn your life upside down. It can take years to fully recover from a major incident. I think it takes most people a lot longer – maybe even a lifetime. You don’t want this to happen to you. Getting ahead of your stress means slowing down and doing something to counteract years of mounting troubles. The aches, pains, and tension you feel are your body’s way of crying out for help. It’s desperate for a break and some tender, loving care.

Health Benefits Galore

For thousands of years, people have been invigorated and healed by the simple practice of Tai Chi.

There are so many health benefits Tai Chi has to offer. See for yourself some of the more notable ones…

  • Improves mood and leads to lower levels of depression
  • Soothes stress, eases anxiety, and prohibits unnecessary worries
  • Reduces inflammation and eases achy joints and muscles
  • Increases energy levels and stamina
  • Greater aerobic capacity and muscle strength
  • Lowers blood pressure and improves heart health
  • Enhances flexibility, balance, and agility

Almost sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Well it isn’t. And that’s the wonderful power of Tai Chi classes.

The Feel of a Yoga Practice

Just because Tai Chi is low-impact, doesn’t mean it’s for wimps or sissies. Tai Chi offers the allure of a martial arts class, but with the feel of a yoga practice. In simpler terms, be a badass while healing your body.

Many beginner and expert students love the peace and relaxation of the flowing Tai Chi movements. Others love and appreciate the martial arts side of Tai Chi, more commonly known as “push-hands”.

Tai Chi classes are unique in that they evolve with the student’s comfort level and goals. All levels of Tai Chi offer the healing and relaxation benefits for your mind, body, and soul.

Low-Impact Training

After a long, hard day’s work, most people are too exhausted to hit the gym or go for a run. Furthermore, those sorts of intense workouts can be a nightmare for older folks or those with bone or joint issues.

Tai Chi is considered a low-impact form of training that’s appropriate for almost anyone. Individuals who are obese, pregnant, or just plain out-of-shape can immediately pick up Tai Chi and experience its benefits.

Even people who would consider themselves above average in terms of fitness level have plenty to gain from this low-impact style of training.

Tai Chi is the only low-impact exercise that has a proven history for reversing the aging process. Not even yoga can compare.

Positively Charged Community

When you walk into your first Tai Chi class, one of the first things you will feel is the energy of the atmosphere.

We’re a tight-knit, positively charged community and are very welcoming to prospective and new students of all kinds.

Tai Chi is ultimately about increasing happiness through its healing movements and motions. Our classes provide a loving and healthy environment to meet people and make life-long friends with other like-mind individuals. We truly offer a place where love, peace, and happiness intertwine to create a deep, joyous feeling for all who attend.

Loving the Tai Chi class - never a 'grind' or monotonous class & i always show up with a wonderous bright eyed 'what's next' or 'so what are we gonna do today' kind of feeling.

I have been going to Shaolin Do Kung Fu for about five years now. I participate both in Kung Fu and Tai Chi and have nothing but great things to say about Mstr Duncan and the program. He is one of the best teachers I have come across. He knows how to breakdown the forms so you are able to learn the elements and as you put them together are able to do the form as designed.

I have had the opportunity to observe him with the children's program and highly recommend him to my friends with kids. He thoroughly enjoys teaching and sharing his art. I appreciate the support we have with GrandMaster Sin The and enjoy his visits twice a year to observe our belt tests.

I started out joining as a way to get healthier. I was not only able to lose a lot of weight but have improved my balance and flexibility tremendously. With all the forms that are available to us, I can see myself doing Kung Fu and Tai Chi for the rest of my life thanks to the patience of Mstr Duncan.

FAQs

What are the health benefits of Tai Chi?

We’ve already covered most of the health benefits above, but here they are again compiled for you.

Regular practice nourishes and rejuvenates the mind, body, and soul. In a physical sense, Tai Chi strengthens the lower body and improves balance. It promotes good posture and improves joint flexibility, making it easier to stand and move around.

The flowing movements of Tai Chi and the shifting of weight improves blood flow throughout the body, which means a healthier heart.

As you learn to relax physically through the Tai Chi practice, you also relax your mind, easing the stress of work, relationships, family, and life. Coping with stress is a major benefit that attracts most people to the ancient art of Tai Chi.

Who can learn Tai Chi?

Students of all ages, shapes, sizes, and abilities have participated in and enjoyed our classes. Tai Chi is considered a low-impact form of exercise, meaning it is very mild and soothing to practice.

The basic and essential movements of Tai Chi are taught and practiced in slow motion. We provide real-time instruction and body adjustments so that you can feel the movements how they are meant to be felt.

Almost anyone can come in and learn the Tai Chi practice with optimism and desire.

How long does it take to learn the Tai Chi movements?

Typically, it takes anywhere from 20 to 30 hours of class to learn and memorize all the basic movements. This depends greatly on the schedule of your teaching location. The benefits of Tai Chi, however, are felt immediately. As you begin to practice the flowing movements of Tai Chi, your body will start the healing process, and you will experience many of the benefits listed above.

Long after you master the beginner movements, your Tai Chi practice will continue to evolve with you. You may continue to study at deeper and deeper levels, further increasing its benefits, and embodying the Tai Chi principles for life.

What if I have health problems or physical ailments?

Tai Chi, when properly instructed and practiced, can be safely and effectively performed by anyone capable of standing and walking around. The Tai Chi movements can and should be followed at your individual aptitude and always adjusted to your current level of health.

It may be comforting to know that plenty of scientific research has shown that Tai Chi has proven beneficial to those suffering from most chronic illnesses, including heart disease, arthritis, and diabetes. Here is a link to just one of the many studies done on Tai Chi.

If you have any physical ailment or disability it is important to consult a medical professional before beginning your Tai Chi practice.

I’m thinking about buying a Tai Chi video or book, will it be able to help?

I’ve personally purchased a Tai Chi for beginners video some years ago. While it was very informative and instructional, there is really nothing that can replace learning Tai Chi in person from an experienced instructor.

Videos and books also lack the community feeling that Tai Chi classes have to offer, which is a significant motivating factor to actually getting up and practicing.
